How do I start a blog? For many small business owners and entrepreneurs, a blog is the cornerstone of any online marketing strategy, so let me reveal some quick ways to start an awesome super ninja blog before you get mad at me.
There’s two options with starting a blog. You can go with a self-hosted solution like wordpress.com, typepad.com, blogger.com, or Tumblr. Or you can do a self-hosted environment, where you’re going to go ahead and register for a hosting account using not GoDaddy, by the way. Sorry, GoDaddy, hot chicks and race cars are good, but the WordPress hosting not so much. So, use Bluehost if you’re starting a brand new blog.
Anyway, you can do a one-click WordPress install, and have your own blog up in minutes. But before you do that, I want to give you a couple of tips. When you start a new blog, I would recommend that you blog on your own domain and not use a separate site or have a separate blog out there. It’s all about building authority and trust, both in the eyes of search engines and your target audience on one main domain, which should be your core website. Use WordPress; it’s simple. It’s the best content management system, or CMS, out there, both for publishing anything related to your business as well as blogging and adding content such as blogs, audio, or video. WordPress is the bomb.
Anyway, so do it on your own site. Also, use Bluehost, as I said. And below this video, either on YouTube or on our site, you’ll see a one-click install video. Pat funded an awesome video called “How to Start a Blog in Four Minutes or Less,” and you’ll see a link to that below in the notes. Use that; it’s so easy. All you have to do is go to your hosting provider and do a one-click install. You have WordPress live on your own domain name. You choose a simple theme; either a free theme if you’re starting out, or a paid theme. We recommend the Genesis Framework at studiopress.com. You do a couple of plug-ins, and you can find more information on our site at geekfree.net.
And you start blogging, it’s that simple. That’s how you start a blog. For more online marketing answers, go to geekfree.net/answers. We’ll see you there. Thank you. And get to blogging.
